Formula 1 has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years. By many measures, it is the world’s fastest-growing sport. 

15 years ago, football entered the world of motorsport. It recognised the potential of the sport on four wheels and created Superleague Formula, a single-seater racing series that featured football clubs from around the world.

Liverpool, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers, Sevilla and many more entered teams in the competition which started in 2008. 

By 2011, though, Superleague Formula had reached the end of the road.

What was the idea behind it in the first place? Why did it need to exist? Was the whole thing a fever dream?
