🎅 Santa Claus is real... and they play in the Finnish fifth tier
What do you know about the most festive team in the world?
The city of Rovaniemi is world-renowned as the home of Santa Claus. Father Christmas’s neck of the woods.
Here, it gets cold. Really cold - as cold as minus -38 °celsius. Nonetheless, nearly 70,000 people (including St. Nick) live in Rovaniemi and like most cities it has a football club - FC Santa Claus.
Founded in 1993, FC Santa Claus plays in red and white (obviously) and has a badge depicting the big man himself checking his naughty list. Twice, of course.
It’s fair to say the club in Finland’s fifth tier has leaned into their festive identity, but FC Santa Claus isn’t a gimmick. They are a proper community club with ambitions of climbing the divisions.
