Faced with the threat of relegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s top division, Sloboda Tuzla’s president fired all his players.
“Something has to be done,” said Azmir Husic, pointing to Sloboda’s dismal record of two draws and 15 defeats in 17 league matches this season. That “something” he spoke of was bolder, and perhaps more reckless, than anyone could have anticipated.

Founded 106 years ago, Sloboda are one of Bosnia’s oldest clubs.
They provided the Yugoslavian national team with countless star players in the days of communist unification. The Red and Blacks played in the UEFA Cup in the 1970s.
With top flight survival on the line, though, Sloboda have taken a novel approach. Can a team without any players stay up?
