One of the characters of the World Cup, there's more to Jason Cummings than meets the eye
Not long after the 2022 World Cup, Jason Cummings received a message from Olivier Giroud. Cummings had mentioned to the Australian media that the French striker refused to swap shirts after the Socceroos’ defeat to Les Blues in Qatar, pretending he didn’t speak English. Giroud, however, wanted to set the record straight.
“I’d like to send you an AC Milan jersey,” Giroud wrote in Instagram message to Cummings, also explaining why he kept the shirt he’d wore against Australia - the shirt he wore to equal France’s all-time scoring record.
Caught on camera reading the message to his Central Coast Mariners teammates, the Socceroos striker asks: “What do I say back in French? Je M'appelle Le Cumdog?”
The Cumdog, as he calls himself, was one of the great personalities of the 2022 World Cup and his captivating character has made him something of a Socceroos icon in his adopted homeland. How did this happen to a player who was released by a struggling Scottish club only 18 months ago?
