🦅 Nigeria's Super Eagles are soaring again under crippling pressure
Circumstances forced Jose Peseiro to make changes that have benefited his players!
Super Eagles Years are not like ordinary years.
Indeed, while it has been 11 years since Nigeria last won the Africa Cup of Nations, the wait to be crowned continental champions has felt much longer for most fans. 11 years might as well be 100 years.
No African national team plays under the same pressure as Nigeria.
Every bad result creates a crisis. When Jose Peseiro’s team drew their opening 2023 AFCON fixture against Equatorial Guinea, there were calls for the manager to be sacked.
Two games on, Nigeria are still in the tournament. Furthermore, they have grown into it.
Friday will see the Super Eagles play an AFCON quarter-final for only the second time since 2013 - when Nigeria last won the whole thing.
This AFCON could have been calamitous for Nigeria such was their underwhelming build-up to the tournament, but instead the Super Eagles are flying again.
How did that happen?
