And yet the club has somehow produced some of the best young coaches working in football right now. It almost certainly happened by accident, but nonetheless - Man Utd has become a managerial incubator.
Just look at the impact being made by Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town, Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough and Eric Ramsay at Minnesota United.
They all came through at Old Trafford.
