🇸🇪 How Djurgården used Tottenham Hotspur’s money to go on a European run
The Stockholm club could make a European semi for the first time!
Lucas Bergvall was a generational talent and everyone at Djurgården knew it. Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur knew it too.
They tussled for the teenage midfielder’s signature. Spurs flew him to London for a tour. Barca treated him to dinner with their sporting director. In the end, Bergvall moved to the Premier League.
Djurgården lost their best young player in a generation before he’d even played 50 games. However, the Stockholm-based club took the €10m Spurs handed them and rebuilt their squad.
Now, Djurgården are just one game from a European semi-final. Tottenham might have got an exciting young midfielder, but Bergvall’s former club got a Conference League run out of the deal.
