Having admitted at a fan event that he doesn’t yet know all the words to ‘The Hearts Song,’ as it’s known, supporters of the Edinburgh club quickly performed a rendition for Tony Bloom.

Bloom himself has been making plenty of noise as Hearts’ new minority owner.

Indeed, the Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise owner known for his steadfast belief in data was quick to set out his stall after attending his first Hearts match on Monday.

“We've got a very good chance of at least being second this season,” said Bloom, immediately pricking the ears of Scottish football fans who have seen two teams win every title since 1984.

Hearts finished 40 points off Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table - and 23 points off second-place Rangers - last season. Splitting the Old Firm so quickly appears impossible, but Bloom’s track record speaks for itself.

Can football’s most successful nerd end Celtic and Rangers’ dominance of the Scottish game? Or is this one challenge too far?
