Every season, C.D Santa Clara fly around 50,000km - more than the earth’s circumference - to play their away fixtures.
This is the territory that comes with being European football’s most isolated club, playing on the Azores, some 1,600km from mainland Portugal - and 3,700km from Varazdin in northern Croatia.
That’s where Santa Clara will travel to for their Conference League qualifier this week with Vasco Matos and his players aiming to make the group stage of a continental competition for the first time in the club’s history.
Varazdin will then travel to the mid-Atlantic for next week’s second leg. Is this the most gruelling away day in European football?
