Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup. Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 tournament. Manchester City is owned by the ruling family of Abu Dhabi. Paris Saint-Germain is Qatari owned. Newcastle United is owned by a Saudi-backed consortium.

Kuwait, meanwhile, has watched on as a bystander. It owns no European football clubs. It has no Formula 1 race. It has hosted no high profile boxing fights.
However, the country of just over three million people is hosting the 2024 Arabian Gulf Cup this month and its national team has offered encouragement that it could make a run.
The tournament could be the springboard Kuwait needs to join Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc. as the next footballing superpower in the Gulf.
