Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has been Porto president since 1982. Nobody has held the position for longer, nor has any other Porto president enjoyed more success.Â
Indeed, Pinto da Costa’s premiership has spanned eras under Sir Bobby Robson, Fernando Santos, Jose Mourinho and most recently Sergio Conceicao. Under his stewardship, Porto have won 23 Portuguese league titles, 15 Portuguese Cups and two European Cups.
Those glory days, however, are in the past and Pinto da Costa increasingly looks like yesterday’s man. Porto is heavily in debt and has fallen behind the curve at the top of Portuguese football.Â

Pinto da Costa could be toppled. He is facing a presidential challenge from a viable candidate. A former manager of his, no less - Andre Villas-Boas. Saturday’s election could see a changing of the guard.
Villas-Boas has had a varied career. He has coached Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Zenit St Petersburg, Shanghai SIPG and Marseille. He even embarked on a motorsport career at one point.
Reviving Porto, however, could be Villas-Boas most challenging role to date.
