Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side have been in Canada all week ahead of a friendly encounter in Montreal on Friday. While Canada is preparing to host the 2026 World Cup, though, Ireland will head home before the party starts.
It’s been 24 years since The Boys in Green last appeared at a World Cup.
Between 1990 and 2002, Ireland qualified for two out of three World Cups, but the drought currently being experienced has raised concerns about the direction of the sport in the country.
