🎣 A club from a remote fishing village is about to win the Swedish title… how did that happen?!
Mjällby (from a village of 800 people) could win the Allsvenskan this weekend!
To visit the home of Mjällby AIF is to visit one of the remotest areas of Sweden.
At the last count, 813 people live in Hällevik, a tiny fishing village on the country’s southern coast. There is a campsite, a couple restaurants, a fishing museum and the stadium belonging to the next Swedish champions.
Mjällby’s incredible rise is more than a Leicester City-esque fairytale. It’s more like if Whitby Town rose through the English football pyramid to one day become Premier League winners.
Just a few seasons ago, Mjällby were in the third tier of Swedish football. Now, they are within touching distance of the Allsvenskan title. How did this happen?
